$3,000 Reward

This beautiful German Shepherd was shot, tied to a cinder block, and thrown into the Susquehanna River.  The public outrage has been tremendous.  Many people have stepped forward to offer to add to the reward to find the person who has done this deed.  Currently, we have $3,000 in reward money that will be given to the individual who can provide evidence or testimony that will convict the person who committed this crime.
If you know of anyone who has any information about the person who killed this dog, please have them contact L.D. Woltz at the Lycoming County SPCA at 570-322-4646.

It's Friday!

I've had a busy week and am looking forward to a relaxing weekend.  Even though I have the weekend off, my dedicated staff will be here caring for the animals.  Right now the shelter is not full.  (Yeah)  Never-the-less, it takes lot of work 365 days of the year to care for the animals.  Just to give you a brief idea what a morning is like:
8 AM:  Arrive at the shelter.  Let the dogs out.  Spray down every kennel and disinfect.  Start cleaning cat kennels.  Take cat out, clean bowls, refresh food and water, clean litter pan, put clean blanket in kennel, add a toy or two, put cat back with a big hug and rub behind the ears.
Transport animals to vet for spay neuter.
Investigator writes reports from previous day and plans investigaitons for new day.
9 AM:  Give medications.  Rinse dog kennels, dry, put beds in dog kennels, fresh water and food.  Let dogs back in.
10 AM:  Clean outside dog kennels.  Check messages, return calls, open the doors, begin the day.  Go with the flow becasue you never know how many animals will come in, how many will go out, and how many you will rescue today.  And it's only 10 AM!!!!!
Enjoy your weekend and love your animals.  And for those who don't receive the love they should, keep an eye out for them and call us if you are concerned.

Not just cats and dogs

Last year we received 1,429 dogs, 2,518 cats, and 115 "other" animals.  If you can have it as a pet, we've probalby had one.  Right now we have a beautiful rabbit.  And as I mentioned Tuesday, (I took a vacation day Wednesday), we have 5 guinea pigs.  Which one do you want?

Gotta Love Guinea Pigs

We received five guinea pigs today.  It's probably a good thing we did get them because one had nails so long they were curling.  Plus this same guinea pig had an infected paw.  Pictures were not available yet so that will be my project for tomorrow.

And we're off!

My first blog ever.  Paco and I want everyone to know more about the Lycoming County SPCA.  It is about the animals and finding them new forever homes.  So far this year we have had 123 adoptions and we have returned 34 dogs and 3 cats to their owners.

It is nice to focus on the positive because some days are harder than others.  Because we have three Humane Society Police Officers, we sometimes get called out for animal cruelty, abuse, or neglect. We have seen some awful things.  But we have also seen some wonderful things with people who are willing to rescue animals and give them a better life.

Just today we had a dog that was hit by a car.  The poor dog was stunned and had a tire track across his flank.  He did have tags on and we left a message with the owner and transported the dog to a veterinarian.  Hopefully the dog did not have internal injuries and will survive.
